My Trip To Tokyo, Japan - 26 November to 1 December 2010

I decided to visit Hakone, Japan after good reviews given by my colleagues. A colleague recommended a travel agency from Japan which specialises in tour packages for foreigners, and I finally booked my Hakone trip via this travel agency.

In conclusion, I booked a 3D2N free and easy package via Wing Onn staying at Hotel Sunroute Plaza Shinjuku (HK$4,820 + HK$613 = HK$5,433). I booked another 2 nights at House of Ikebukoro at 6,000 yen per night and 1 night at Mikayawa Ryokan in Hakone. 1 night stay at the ryokan cost 51,200 yen. The romance car return ticket cost 3,600 yen per person and the Hakone 2 days pass cost 3,100 yen per person.

Exchange rate is about 1 yen = RM 0.38 and HK$0.095.

Day 1

Very delicious - 980 yen

We took the 9.05am plane and arrive at Narita Airport at about 2.30pm (Tokyo time). We took the Keisei line to Nippori and change to JR-Yamanote line to Ikebukuru. It was much easier than expected . We arrive at our guest house at about 5pm. After checking in, we for dinner and went round Ikebukuro. The ramen we had was excellent. Must visit again if I go to Tokyo. The pork was tasty and nice soup. We were lucky that we went early at about 5.30pm and didn't have to wait very long.

Day 2

I like this best, only this will cost 3,300 yen

We woke up at about 9.15am and went for breakfast. We then went to Shinjuku's Odakyu travel (west exit) to collect our Hakone vouchers. We wanted to have crab lunch at east exit book it took us a long time to find the way to east exit. Apparently we have to go to Marumochi line to cross to the east exit. We reached the crab restaurant and this was the most expensive meal we had in Tokyo (about 10,000 yen), but it was really delicious. We finished lunch at about 1.45pm and went to Harajuku at about 3pm.

I bought quite a number of Lolitta clothes since they are having sales. We left Harajuku at about 5.30pm and went to Shibuya. Went to Shibuya 109 and then to 0101 Jam to buy watch. I bought a Jill Stuart watch. We left Shibuya at about 8.30pm and went back to Tobu in Ikebukoro to buy its cheese tart. I was so busy trying all the clothes I bought and slept at about 2am.

Day 3

We woke up at 7.30am and reached Sunroute Hotel at about 8.45am to leave our luggage in the hotel so that we do not need to bring it to Hakone. We went for breakfast (udon) at the station and departed to Hakone at 10.10am via the Hakone Romance Train (VSE train, the newest in line). We arrived and Hakone-Yumoto station at about 11.35pm and took the No.2 bus to our hotel (Horain stop). The bus stop right in front of our hotel (ryokan). The journey took about 40 minutes instead of the usual 20 minutes due to the traffic jam. I realised that Yunessen was just few minutes walking distance from my ryokan.

Can clearly see mount Fuji

Owakudani

View from the ropeway

Very nice snack at Owakudani stall

The reception lady was kind enough to provide us transportation route and suggested tourist attraction and it saves us a lot of trouble researching how to go to certain places. At first, we took a bus to Gora station and took the Touzan cable car to Souzan stop. We then took the Ropeway to Owakudani stop and visited Owakudani. We managed to see mount Fuji clearly as today's weather was good. We then took the Ropeway again to Togendai and took the cruise to tour Lake Ashi and the cruise ended at Hakone-moto port. We reached the port at about 5pm and took a bus back to hotel. We reached hotel at about 5.45pm and went for hot spring. We had our dinner at about 7pm.

This meal was supposed to be Kaiseki meal served in our room. A lot of varieties, but I don't eat some of it. Of course some of it are really tasty. I would say this is a unique experience, but a bit too expensive. The amount spent here for one night equal to the cost of my 5 days in Tokyo! I soaked in the hot spring in our room again at night. I think the temperature was about 8C. We can actually see the stars :)

Day 4

We woke up at about 8.10am to get ready for breakfast at 8.30am. I was lazy after breakfast and planned to rest a while before I soak in the hot spring again. But without realising it, at about 9.55am the hotel staff told us that check out time was 10am. Gosh, didn't manage to soak in hot spring again. We went out to take picture and took the 11am bus right in front of our hotel to Hakone-Yumoto station. We walked around the station and waited for our train at 12.48pm. This time, we sat right in front of the train and get very nice view along the journey, that was supposed to be a "romance seat" in the "romance train" because you can view the "romantic" scenery during the journey.

We arrived in Shinjuku at about 2.30pm and checked in to our hotel, Sunroute Hotel Shinjuku. The hotel is really new and clean, really satisfied with this hotel. We then went to Kouryu for ramen and realised it is not as nice as Mutekiya's ramen. We went to Isetan, 0101 men and Uniqlo.

Tasty cod fish
At night, we went to Shinjuku's food street to eat the "local tai phai tong". The "yakitori" was nice. It's not cheap though, as everyone has to order a drink, and the drink itself already cost min 500 yen.

Day 5

We woke up at 9.15am and made it just in time for the breakfast that ends at 9.40am. We went to Tsujiki market (Tsujikishijo stop) at 10.10am. The Toei-Odeo line was just next to my hotel and it was so convenient to go to Tsujiki market. We reached at about 11am and ate the sashimi rice at about 12pm. The queue was long and we waited for about 30 minutes. The salmon sashimi was so delicious, soft and tender and it's not exaggeration to say it can melt if your mouth. I have never tried such delicious sashimi rice. We tried the crab leg at one of the stalls, it looked nice but does not taste nice. What a disappointment.

After lunch, we went to Harajuku again to buy a few more of my Lolitta dress and shoe. We went to Metekiya again for ramen, this time at about 7pm. Gosh, 17 people ahead of us and we waited for about 45 minutes. We walked around Shinjuku and went back to hotel at about 10.30pm.

Day 6

This is really expensive, 2200 yen

This is as long as a chopstick

We went to Tsujiki market again to eat lunch as it was so delicious, this time at another restaurant. We went back to hotel after that and took the Shinjuku Toei line and change train at Motoyawata to Keisei line to Narita Airport Terminal 2. We reached athe airport at about 4pm and went round to buy souvenirs. 1 of the main shops are at the middle of terminal 2, and the Royce chocolate shop was near gate 85 after the "aerotrain".

Conclusion

This trip was really enjoyable, except for the expensive price. Although I did not survey much, the trip went on smoothly. I must go to Tokyo again....soon.......
